Start with the design

Most people are tempted to go straight to a builder (or surveyor) to get their project off the ground. However, this is missing out a vital first stage that could save you an awful lot of time, expense and heartache.

The best place to start a project is to decide what you want to achieve – there are often many different ways of achieving the same thing. For example, a kitchen extension can be designed in many different ways but they will all have different implications in terms of cost, planning and building regulations issues not to mention how you will use your new kitchen. Using an architect for this initial stage is an ideal way to make sure your project will meet your specific needs and guide you through the minefield of rules and regulations.
