Getting started with a home renovation project
Many people start with the
question what can or cannot be done to their homes but generally speaking
anything is possible. The real questions are what will I be allowed to do and
how much will it cost?
Always consider why you are
embarking on a project as this will influence many of your decisions. Are you
trying to improve the value of the property for resale? Do you need more space
for a growing family? It may be a combination of factors but being aware of your
reasons will help guide you through the decisions that will have to be made
throughout the process.
Open Question: I'm training asa structural engineer, but struggling to see what stops me doin architect work aswell.?
Hi,
I'm part way through a degree in Civil Engineering, with the main focus of my degree being on structural analysis and design (design of floor slabs to comply with code etc)
I was wondering what stops me doing architects work when i graduate aswell as engineering work and just claiming both fees, because so far, as i can gather all architects do is design the building to look well and serve a purpose then hand the drawings to the engineer to make possible. Usually an argument ensues and a comprisemise has to be reached.
In a nutshell, would a qualified architect have any specific skills that i wouldn't have as a structural engineer? If they don't what stops me doing there job aswell? why aren't all engineers doing this? If they do, how can i get these skills?
Open Question: Architects I should know about/recommended reading?
I'm applying to do architecture at uni this year and was wondering what the best books were to read, or architects to read about, to introduce myself to it.
Voting Question: Computer programme help?
In my office we use a programme called autocad (architects) and we have a a drawings viewer called DWG TrueView but for some reason on one of the computers the drawing file wont open automatically on the viewer av tried to do open with (right click open with) but it wont change. only way of opening is via the programme itself. anyone have a clue what to do? i can open it automatically on administrator and that but not on the person side of the computer.
It's only on this one computer by the way.
We are using XP

I ave looked at the uni prospectus for the course and dey wnt an a level in art but d a level requires an art gcse nd i didnt take art at gcse is it possible for me to tke a seperate course in architecture instead to build a portfollio?..nd does anyone no a summer school or course which i can go to/tke dis summa?..fnkoo
